The handling is at best........terrifying!
You must have something set up wrong Mine always handled pretty well but had obvious limits especially fast cornering. It was pretty stable at high speeds but you had to concentrate more than driving a normal production car.

Now, it is in a different league and have not been able to get it near it's limits, it is very confidence inspiring to drive.

Was speaking to Jeff at the last Thames Valley/Middlesex, Surrey meet at Blackbushe and he expressed similar concerns about his handling and the fact that it was scary at anything approaching 100?

I agree with Noel, maybe worth getting your cars 4 wheels, laser tracked etc...?

My car feels much more stable at all speeds now and as Pete (sidecarbod) says, all the little mods add up to a big difference

Take Noel's advice and sort them sooner, rather then later

I am really pleased with my Sumo now

Well, by scary I mean you have to keep both hands firmly on the wheel and expect the unexpected! twitches and wobbles etc..

Came up behind an MX5 on the lanes last month ( I used to have one, so I know how well they can handle) when he heard me he put his foot down....and I just didn't stand a chance through the bendy bits....

That is bumpsteer.

After doing the mods you take both hands off the steeing wheel at 130mph if you like. (Private test ground!)

..don't I know it!

I have loooked at the steering rack mounts on my car, but it does not seem to have the towers that I hear so much about cutting down....And I have had the tracking done a few times.....so, i'm at a bit of a dead end with the handling at the moment.

If its a MKIII chassis then it must have the posts that the rack sits on. If it's any other Mk then don't follow the advice on this post as it will be wrong for your car.

Assuming that it is a MkIII then the two long bolts that hold the rack down go through the posts the need to be cut down. They don't look 110mm long because they actually go through the chassis cross member and burst out the bottom of it.

Pete

EDIT...

Just read your post about the cortina front......its a MKII....sorry!

You could still have a bumpsteer issue but I have no info that can help you!
