    4cyl to V8

    I'm looking at a sumo cobra rep that is registered as a 1.6 from 1983.

    What I basically want to know is will a sbf V8 fit?

    The things I am worried about are;

    1 - The engine mounts/crossmember is different
    2 - The transmission tunnel will be smaller.
    3 - The chassis will be to weak.

    I can weld bits on.

    Anyway, are the above three likely problems, or are all the bodyshells basically the same? I realise it would have the weaker Ford suspension/brakes/drivetrain, as oppose to Jag bits.

    Ta.

    Hi Dave. The Mk1 chassis is not up to the power, nor is the cortina rear axle. Apart from that you would need to change, Engine/Gearbox /Clutch, Exhaust, Engine Mounts, Propshaft, Radiator, Roadsprings (extra weight) Rev Counter and probably a load of stuff I've forgotten.

    Do you know which model of Sumo, when was it built and what suspension (Cortina, Gragada or Sierra - or if you're really lucky there were a few Jag Sumo chassis built)?

    I'll ring the bloke in a bit to see what's in it, there isn't even the engine cc in the ad (autotrader).

    Changed my Dax from a Rover V8 to a 454 Chevy...................not the best way of obtaining the car you want. Has swallowed a lot of cash but I had the advantage of buying the Dax for silly money. Upgrading an older Sumo to a V8 could be a whole heap of trouble. IMHO leave it as it is.
