Sumo Handbrake Mounting

I eventually ventured into the garage this morning (-2 outside and probably -4 in the garage) to tackle the handbrake......

When bolting my handbrake squarely on the chassis the front of the handbrake is some 1" higher than the back. It is therefore impossible to get a level fit. Should I be using washers to pack up the back to get a square fit or is something else wrong - like Pilgrim supplying me a Granada handbrake with the donor kit??

Have checked out the video and various build sites and cannot figure out what is wrong. Any suggestions? I can post a photo if this doesn't make sense.

Ta

RE: Sumo Handbrake Mounting

Now you made me go out there too!

This is my Sumo/Sierra brake mounted...not sure what is wrong with yours, unless it's the wrong brake.

RE: Sumo Handbrake Mounting

That was quick Bernie

I cannot fathom this one out. If It was the wrong brake (say Granada) then how would it be fitted to a Granada...

I'm taking another look

RE: Sumo Handbrake Mounting

The handbrake lever I used also had a large gap that required spacing.I used a long bolt ,bolted to the hand brake lever and a nut and penny washer against the transmission tunnel to save using loads of washers. This seems to be fords fault ,why use one design when 6 will do!

RE: Sumo Handbrake Mounting

Hi Brian,
I assums you mean the handbrake is not level in the 'off' position. I mentioned this to Tony recently and Pilgrim grind away the bottom notch on the ratchet so the lever goes down further. you have to reposition the micro-switch slightly. In this position the lever is just right as an elbow rest.

good luck

Brian

RE: Sumo Handbrake Mounting

In my car the hand brake has been moved to the right hand side of the drivers seat and i use the tunnel for an arm rest. Not sure how you would do this with the ford cable system but its just some food for thought

Having studies the responses:

Thanks Tim - The nut and washer solution is more elegant

Thanks Brian - I'll also be grinding off the notch

I had exactly this problemn and used a spacer. However, that was before I got the handbrake mounting tab;s re-welded to lwoer the handbrake handle.
