Upgrading Front Calipers

I am using Granada running gear fo rmy Sumo, however I am sure I heard somewhere that you can upgrade the front calipers to 'four pot' calipers, can anyone confirm this ? if so where could I get some ?.

RE: Upgrading Front Calipers

Hi,
yes, the favourite upgrade used to be the BL 'princess' calipers - these fit the uprights if you make up some simple spacers. These four-pots are often fitted with spacers between the two halves of the caliper so that they can accomodate a vented disk( not sure where the disk came from - IIRC it was a BMW disk from somat or other !). This is the setup I have on my Granada-based. The only trouble though is that Princess calipers can be a bi** to bleed. Also they are getting quite hard to find too now.
You're probably best off talking to Burtons (the Ford specialists) and enquiring whats available - probably best to go for Wilwood stuff or similar. There are a few brake specialists who advertise in the mags too - but a word of warning - Had some good advice from a company called Hi-spec a few years ago, but he then supplied some pretty shoddy kit to me too so I wouldn't recommed. Best of luck !

pete.

RE: Upgrading Front Calipers

You can get the princess 4 pot kits Or just the spacers from the capri club, I have them on my 2.8I capri & am thinking of putting them on my sumo.

RE: Upgrading Front Calipers

Steve,
You could always give Europa or Demon Tweeks a try, they both have 4 pot callipers and discs in their catalogues.

I've always found them both very knowledgeable and helpful.

Cheers
