| Fuel tank sender Hi all What's the best way to fit the Pilgrim sender unit to the tank ? Looks like self taping screws but any better ideas welcome. Also has anyone fitted 2 of the single roll over hoops and if so, is it necessary to remove the tank or can enough access be gained through wheel arches to bolt the inside leg to the chassis support Cheers David On the road in the summer (but which summer ?) |

| RE: Fuel tank sender I have twin hoops fitted to my Sumo. I predrilled my hoop legs and stumps prior to fitting the body. I also have 6x9 holes cut out of the back of the tub for some speakers which allows a window to work through. If you havn't done either of these then things might be a bit awkward but you should be able to drill the holes with out removing the fuel tank, if anything it's the inside legs that will be the b1tch. As for the sender. I found self tapping screws to be adequete but for some reason my sender unit needed a bit of sanding to get its slightly oversized belly to sqeeze in to the predrilled hole. | RE: Fuel tank sender For a start, the sender supplied was a 6 bolt fixing and the tank was drilled for a 5 bolt, So first drill the tank, stuff with rags, magnet to catch the swarf etc. Insert bolt, "sticking up" wrap a turn of wire around bolt to stop it dropping back into tank, I used swa cable armouring but any suitable wire would do. Repeat x 6, drop on gasket and sender, fit washers and nuts, (not tight), remove wire, tighten nuts, you can hold the bolts with a pliers or similar to stop it turning if you need to. Cut bolts to length, rembering to leave one longer to connect the earth to. Self tappers, hmmm... not for me. I have a single roll bar behind the driver. I have drilled and bolted the fixings. As the rear tub will be carpeted I don't see a problem cutting an access hole if required. Cheers, Dave. |
