engine removal

has anyone took a rover v8 out of their sumo after the body was fitted? was it a generally easy job or a bit of a b**ch

Yes it can be done. You will need a crane with a high lift. The area to watch out for it the front where the bonnet hinges are (The bonnet will need to come off) The engine it'self will come out fairly easily - the gearbox will hang lower and needs to carefully guided out. To avoid this you could always split the engine/gearbox in situ and lift out each individually...

RE: engine removal

Personally I would split the engine and gearbox first, taking only the engine out. Getting the box off the engine is simple enough when the car is up on axle stands - believe me, I've done it often enough.

As for taking out the engine, well I had mine stripped to the bare block in December last year and it probably wouldn't need a crane to remove just that. Couple of strong blokes to lift should easlily do it.

thanks guys, i can now put a used engine in mr sumo to get it on the road before the end of summer and rebuild an old block to the spec i want over winter and put that in next spring
