Pilgrim SUMO III Loom Hi Folks Do I need your help or what.................... Purchased a wring loom from pilgrim and the build manual states "drape the cockpit position of the loom over the steering column such that the two spurs holding the special ford black multiplugs straddle the column" only problem is that the loom does not come with the ford connectors so how do I know which wires should be connected to the back of the column ? (thankfully I kept the connectors from the donor sierra) Checked the Mark(I built this car honest)Evans' build video and yup he has the plugs on his (just like every other blag in the video) I know that if I get a Phd in reading the supplied diagram I can eventually work it out, but any help would be welcome Regards Dave 'and it was going oh so well'

RE: Pilgrim SUMO III Loom HI Dave, Above all dont panic! and take your time. Look in the manual and put labels on the ends of all the loose wires and connectors. The loom does form a 'T' when laid out, and from what I remember the loom does have sierra plugs on it but only for some of the column switches. You have to 'adjust' to terminate for the horn, indicator stalk, and keyswitch. The kit should have some heat shrink to go over the terminals. Once you have marked it using the colour scheme in the manual you will get a good idea of what goes where. Norm :tu Oh well, done it again!

RE: Pilgrim SUMO III Loom Hi Norm thanks for the reply, thing is my loom has no sierra plugs at all, so I am wondering if I have something missing (no comment please). It looks like the wires that would have the plugs have bullet connectors at the ends. I will do as you suggest, thanks for the advise Dave 'and it was going oh so well'

RE: Pilgrim SUMO III Loom Dave, Labeling the wires is an excellent idea. You will find that from the driving position you have one part of the loom going through the drivers footwell bulkhead and around the top chassis rail and another section going out the side of the bulkhead, along the sill into the boot area. The section in the engine bay is laid out for a chevy engine (Distributor at the rear) so you will need to change where the distributor wires emurge from the loom. Remember to use grommets where the loom passes through the bulkhead / Fibreglass. It is possible that mistakes have been made when putting the loom together. My loom did have the black plastic connectors in to which the bullet terminals were secured. I'll dig out a diagram I drew of the pin connections later this evening. You will need to check the fuse boxes and relay holders to ensure that you put the correctly rated fuse/relay in. My loom had relay holders incorrectly labled (They have little numbers on) Which would have resulted in my headlamps blinking hazard lights (If they hadn't blown first) x( Dan ~ http://homepage.ntlworld.com/danny.mann/ http://images.animfactory.com/animat...ood_md_wht.gif

RE: Pilgrim SUMO III Loom I've heard that the newer looms from Pilgrim no longer have the Sierra plugs on them so they will not plug directly into the column switches. I think they have done this to save money somewhere. You will need to work out which wires go where, but as Dan has mentioned above, there are enough of us around that can offer this advice. As for the relays, check which wires go in to each relay and compare this against the wiring diagram. This should help you figure out which relay is used for what purpose. I never realised they were numbered, just worked it out from the wires that were being used. Regards, Tony B --- http://homepage.ntlworld.com/tony.breski

RE: Pilgrim SUMO III Loom Dave Looks like you have the new loom. This loom has no column connectors, because "Ford will only supply by the million" says Pilgrim. Not to worry though. If you are carefull you can remove the pins from the old connectors, remove any old wire and then fit onto your new loom. (I was not so I soldered my loom to the plugs) Pilgrim do supply additional wiring diagrams with the Loom as the diagram in the manual is out of date. WARNING!!!!! I was one of the first to get the new Loom and found out, after blowing 5 fuses, that the relay for the Headlights was wired up wrong. The colour coding for one wire on the ignition was wrong (starter motor on all the time) and there was no wires for one of the rear stop lights. I suppose someone had to test it and I have told Pilgrim of the problems. They are aware and may have fixed these by now (I fitted my loom December 2002). Hope this helps

RE: Pilgrim SUMO III Loom Hmm, I'd spotted the lack of a cable for the near side stop light but as I have not yet powered up the loom the other problems have not yet come to light. (kit picked up Jan 03) As for the column switches, I used the plugs off the donor and soldered the cable together. I also fitted an extra relay for the horn, I have my doubts as to wether the existing switch will take the current. I also fitted a pair of relays to switch the rad. fans, I have SERIOUS doubts as to wether the rad. switch will will hold up under the load, each fan has a 20A fuse backing it up! I have also fitted an over-ride switch, easier using relays. So, no relays for the fans, horn or ignition, but you do get a wiper delay facility! Certainly not the most impressive part of the kit.

RE: Pilgrim SUMO III Loom Guys, Where do you get the wiper delay realy from, is it from the sierra? If so can anyone tell me which one it is and I'll go and get one from my local scrappies. Cheers Adrian:tu

RE: Pilgrim SUMO III Loom Adrian, Yes it's from the Sierra, it's the red one.
