Sumo Seat Mountings

Guys,
Do the Pilgrim supplied seat bases have an angle on them to counteract the sloping floor or is this taken up on the seat mounts they supply?

Cheers

RE: Sumo Seat Mountings

From wot I understand.....and that aint much!...the seats have the slope in them, the runners mount onto the sheet steel.

hope this clears it up a bit!

Oh well, done it again!

RE: Sumo Seat Mountings

The runners are just normal flat runners and the seat base is angled to follow the slope of the floor. So moving the seat back also lowers you slightly and forward raises you a bit.

I think the angled floor was to add strength rather than help short drivers.

What sort of seats are you fitting? I'm still looking for someone who's fitted seats with headrests to see which ones they use.

Cheers

David

RE: Sumo Seat Mountings

I allways thought that the angled floor gave more room to long guys like me. Compared to mine a series III has a bit more legroom. But the extra strength thing is also a nice angle to look at it...

RE: Sumo Seat Mountings

David,
After just coming back from Stonleigh, I had decided I liked the Richfield RX1191 seats the best and at a price of £220 ea + vat sounded really reasonable but I've just measured the hole and the maximum width is 410mm so these are too wide.
The only seat at the show that would fir is from Intatrim in Telford thay have an Appollo which is 410mm wide at its base and at £320 + vat for the pair sound better.

Cheers

RE: Sumo Seat Mountings

I've used Intatrim seats in my previous Robin Hood (the Ranger model seat) and was very satisfied with them. I have details of their range which shows the Apollo as having a maximum width of 450mm and so I had discounted them. They also used Ford headrests ( the old two stalk Sierra type) with I do not think would look right.

Do you have any photos of the Apollo saets with headrests attached?

The Richfield seats I had considered were their RX777 with headrests and some £460 per pair. They look very "60's" and so would suit a Cobra (or so I think) but I've not seen them in the "flesh" so to speak.

I didn't manage to get to Stoneleigh, sounds like I should have made the effort.

Cheers

David

RE: Sumo Seat Mountings

David,
I didn't really look at the RX777 I have to admit, they look as if they may be rather tall compared to normal Cob seats. I did think at first that I wanted headrests but the more I look at plain seats I don't think headrests would look right.
Of course there's always going to be some prat who hits you from behind, then you'll need them.

Cheers

RE: Sumo Seat Mountings

The seat bottom is set at the angle you mount it, Which normally is parralel with the floor pan. The back of the seat is angled back slightly. If you sit in the chair when its on the garage floor they are damn uncomfy and you end up sitting with legs like a frog. but having them angled back slightly gives you that 3" drop the makes them more comfortable.

I agree that it adds strength and you can fit slightly taller people in, but that is secondary in my opinion to the comfort gains...
