Break pipe layout Hello Everyone Can anyone offer any advise on the best way of running the break pipes for the Sumo? The front pipes look nice and straight forward but i'm not too sure about the back ones. In particular i'm after some advise about where is the the best place to mount the rear break compensator. I'd also appreciate some advice on the best point to mount the rear flexible pipes, both on the rear suspension and to the chassis. Any pictures would be good !!! Oh, i'm using a Granada Mk3 donor kit ! Thanks everyone Regards Allan

RE: Break pipe layout hi allan A bit late today to get you some photos but i will thry to post some over the weekend, I have run the rear brake pipe round to the nearside and about 2' from the bulk head mounted the compensator valve on the top of the frame/rail. dont forget to mount it at a 27% angle ! I then ran the break pipe from the compensator to the bulk head, then across the transmission tunnel and ran the pipe down the tunnel for about 12" and then added the T piece. The rear brake pipe for the nearside then contunued down the tunnel and the rear pipe for the off side is run up the nearside tunnel, accross the tunnel, then down to the off side and then continues to the rear. Regards Dave

RE: Break pipe layout I havn't fitted a compensator valve but it's normal for this device to be fitted close to the servo. I split the pipe to my rear drum brakes very close to the front of the car and had to lines going down each side of the transmission tunnel. In retro-spect it would have been more sensible to have split the lines towards the rear of the car and had a single line traversing the length of the car... http://homepage.ntlworld.com/danny.m...ssembly-11.jpg Dan ~ http://homepage.ntlworld.com/danny.mann/ http://images.animfactory.com/animat...ood_md_wht.gif

RE: Break pipe layout Alan I too am using a Granada as a doner, and dont recall seeing any compensator valve for the rewar brakes, are you using drums or disks? Steve:tu

RE: Break pipe layout I ran my brake pipes down the offside of the car, as Tony at Pilgrim suggested. Lots of people run them down the tunnel, but I think I would have crushed them getting the RV8 in. At the back, the T piece is screwed to the underide of the chassis toward the rear of the axle tunnel, and the pipes run back down to the flexible connections. Where the pipe run round a chassis edge, I've protected it with rubber tubing. b

RE: Break pipe layout - WARNING !!!!! Just to let you know that I had routed my rear pipes through the transmission tunnel and now wish I had not. The reason being that when fitting the RV8 and LT77 box I managed to catch one of the pipes whilst 'persuading' the engine into place and this reslulted in a bent pipe with a dent in it (not very SVA or safety friendly) so I would suggest running the pipe down the side of the car, (isn't it good to have a Phd in hindsight !!) Dave ' and it was going oh so well '

RE: Break pipe layout Allan, Here is a picture of the brake compensator fitted on my build. At my last SVA the tester was pleased to see the valve fitted and passed my brakes no problem. My pipes to the reart run along the offside and across the back to a tee , just beside the diff. Steve
