RE: Sumo alernator

The Alternator from a 1.8 or 2Ltr Sierra is a good one to use. Most parts stores will offer a refund if you give them the alternator from your donor car in exhange for a refurb'd unit.

The fixing plate supplied by pilgrim will allow you to afix the alternator in place. The tensioner bar is then secured using a lower bolt fixing from the water pump. If you wish I can take some photo's over the weekend...

RE: Sumo alernator

Wasn't able to take some photo's of the actual fixing point for the tensioner bar. It is fixed to a threaded spindle that has a couple of nuts that are used to set the distance from the engine that the bar is held. It isn't an ideal setup as there is a fair amount of flex in it which results in the alternator shaking slightly - it still however outputs a steady 14.3V back to the battery.

It may be worth considering beefing up the way in which the tensioner bar is attached to the engine so as that multiple fixing points are used - This is a modification I am already planning. Has anyone else with a rover engine changed from the Pilgrim method?
