Fuel Pump fitting

Pilgrim supplied me with a fuel pump as part of the rolling chassis. The pump is a Moprod FP502E.

Thing is there is no instructions as to how it should be fitted. It is a small round motor which loosly fits inside a plastic sleeve. I have no idea as to how to fix it to the chassis or which way up it should be.

Anyone else fitted this pump ?

Steve

RE: Fuel Pump fitting

Steve,

Mount lying on the side. You will need to get your self some open mounting spring clips (The sort of thing you use on tool boards for holding round tools such as greese guns, Hammers etc.. They look like a C and are fixed to the chassis with a self tapper though the center) You will need 2 of these to securely hold the pump in place. I have pop riveted a plastic cable tie plate below the pump to allow me to cable tie it securely in to position. It's a belts and braces to prevent the pump poping out of the clips which is pretty unlikely.

I'm sure I have a photo - I'll dig it out this evening.

RE: Fuel Pump fitting

You could always try an old coil mounting bracket (that's what I've used). Fits perfectly.

Don't forget to pay attention to the flow (in/out) on the pump. In from fuel tank, out to engine. I know this is obvious, but you wont get any fuel if they are the wrong way round.

Cheers,
Tony B

RE: Fuel Pump fitting

Just had a quick read though your site. Are you trying for a record, your only 17 days in and you've already got a rolling chassis with engine fitted. Looks awfully close at the front - are you able to change fanbelts?

RE: Fuel Pump fitting

Dan,

There is 21mm from the front of the pully to the Steering rack, plenty of room for getting a belt in and out,( I have now fitted one).

Not trying for any record, just had a weeks holiday , besides I am constantly waiting for parts from Pilgrim, the body is ordered but does not arrive until August. The seats take just as long and I am still awaiting the rest of my rolling chassis parts.

Still Penny did seem surprised when I orderd the body.

My last kit took six months to build and get through SVA but was a much more difficult build than the Sumo, (so far !), but you did get everything for the complete kit from day 1.

I tend to plan ahead and build on the weekends.

Once again thanks for the advice.

Steve

RE: Fuel Pump fitting

Steve,

hello again.

I seem to have gone down the same route as yourself. I did the Robin Hood 2b, and am now in the process of putting together a Sumo. I seem to remember a few emails back and forth during our previous building tomfoolery.

:OT Any advice on offloading the Robin Hood? I need to sell it in order to get the bodywork for the Sumo, as 'er indoors has decreed it.

RE. OT....
Take it to Donington, If it's a "tidy" build you should have no problems selling it for a realistic price. (what it's worth, not what you think it's worth).
That's where I sold my Tiger last year.
That's how I'm able to afford to build my Sumo. (Granny, RV.
