diff to prop shaft thread size

Does anyone know what thread size this is? Or did you just use a smaller bolt, or drill them out?

As usual, I only discover this sort of stuff whilst lying under the car, cursing that it doesn't fit the way i expected, yet again...

RE: diff to prop shaft thread size

Bernie,

There are special sized threaded bolts that fit the diff to the prop. You should have kept these from your donor car. My suggestion is that if you don't have them, get some from a scrap yard or dealer.

Sorry, can't remember the actual size, but Mr Haynes should be able to tell you.

HTH.

Thanks chaps, I'll go hunt.

I never had a donor, the scrap yard did the job for me. I'm the proud owner of K132 CRX, but I never saw it whole.

RE: diff to prop shaft thread size

I seem to remember using metric nuts which were able to thread into the diff flange. I also used some nylocs on the bolts just to be sure to be sure.

RE: diff to prop shaft thread size

It turns out they cost 68p each from Fords, so not worth the trip to the scrapyard

RE: diff to prop shaft thread size

Buy new ones from you friendly Ford main dealer dont use old or second hand . They patch bolts which means that they have paint on the thread to act as a torque retaining feature in other words to stop them coming loose. They should also be 8.8. I used transit ones same thread but slightly longer so that they protrude a couple of threads out of the diff flange. Normal Sierra ones don't quite make it with a Pilgrim Prop shaft cos the flange is thicker.
