Granada Hub Mod & Bumpsteer

I currently have a Sumo (Granada MK 3 BASED) that I purchased as a complete kit and have noticed that it has a fair degree of bump steer in the front suspension (change in toe setting with upwards or downwards movement of suspension). This is generally corrected by hightening or lowering the steering rack. However on my particular car I can see that the track rod ends engage well into the Granada hubs with easily 11 mm of thread protrusion past the tie rod nut ie when the builder modified the Granada Hubs to enter the track rod from above he has gone too deep with the taper thus the track rod is deep into the hub.
Similarly the Lower ball joint seems to go too far into the lower hub connecting hole . I have a copy of the Sierra build manual at issue 2 which instructs an 7 degree taper (no depth spec )for the track rod end hole in the hub and a 14 mm straight hole for the lower joint hole . CAN ANYBODY PLEASE CONFIRM THAT THIS IS THE INSTRUCTIONS GIVEN IN THE MOST RECENT MANUAL. Any info on this would be much appreciated ,I no that it is critical to minimise bumpsteer to avoid any twitches/wiggles or steering going light at speed etc. My estimate is that I could alter the position (height)of the track rod end by easily 10 mm if the hub had been modified correctly ??

RE: Granada Hub Mod & Bumpsteer

As far as I'm aware the build on the Sumo hasn't changed in all these years and it still required a 7mm taper on the front hubs. Using the old track rod end as a guide work for getting this correct.

You may need to visit your local scrappy and get a new set, redrill and refit. Not too difficult a job.
