RE: Anyone converted a Pilgrim Sumo to a V8 ?

I would have thought there's a lot of work involved.
1/ Removing the chassis engine mounts and welding in new ones to suit the V8.
2/ New transmission and mountings.
3/Probably a complete new cooling system upgraded to suit the V8.
4/ New exhaust system for V8.
5/ possibly a new tacho to suit V8
Lots of work and money involved

....Then you are in a much better position, especially if the chassis has not been powder coated or galvanised.

You may just be able to obtain the relevant mount parts from Pilgrim and have them welded on in the correct position locally.

Simon.

The chassis has been galvanised, is this going to cause problems ?

No not really, you would be able to grind back the galvaniseing in the appropriate area and weld on the new mounts.
You could then paint that area.

The Sumo chassis is the same for Ford, Rover or what ever engine you choose to fit, you just buy or make up the mounts to suit the engine. They are bolt on so it's not a problem.

I agree, when you buy the engine mounting pack from pilgrim they'll ask what engine will be going in and supply the right mounts for engine and gearbox too. If you have already got the mounts for another engine speak to tony at pilgrim and see if you can exchange/part exchange them for the ones you want:tu

Howard

First, which V8 are you considering, if its a Rover thats ok, if you are thinking of an American boat anchor V8, I wouldn't bother.

Nothing against the Sumo, as I built one, which I kept for 2 years, good value budget cobra which looks the business, but in my honest opinion the chassis and drive train are not up to coping with the power and weight of an American non ally V8 engine.

This is purely my opinion as I have built one.
