Major major info needed urgently!!!

I have just measured the vertical height from the top of the steel bulkheads (where on one side the pedal box is bolted through) to the top of the carb. I get approx 7 inches with air filter, 6 without.

Is the engine going to fit?

I built the engine before I had decided on a Cobra and used an edelbrock air gap manifold which is quite high.

Could anyone tell me what their approx vertical height is? Please!

Re: Major major info needed urgently!!!

Hi Ed,
Had a similar problem with my 289 and had to change the manifold to an Edelbrock Performer to give the bonnet clearance. Apparently this manifold gives better performance than the one fitted originally.
Hope this helps, Clive

Re: Major major info needed urgently!!!

My old ram with 302 ford (its not htat much difference) had a performer manifold and the airbox (which was a cut down height shallow oval ally cobra job) was less than 2mm underbonnet clearance.
It's hard to imagine an airgap manifold on a 350 chevvy will clear without bonnet mods or a different manifold

Sorry

Steve

Re: Major major info needed urgently!!!

Don't suppose anyone knows if one of the Dax bonnets will fit? Or is it a better idea to cut off the scoop and just make a bigger one?!

BOLLOQS!

Re: Major major info needed urgently!!!

Ive just been going through this and the consensus is that with a 351w and air gap doesnt fit in many if any kits without mods. I presume a chevy (spit) is of a similar size so presuably wont fit..If you have the manifold already then you might as well fit the engine and have a look, not much you can do about it if its a no goer...

Re: Major major info needed urgently!!!

I would expect that a bigger scoop will sort it. The unprepped body that came with my ram rolling chassis has major shut lines, dings etc so a new scoop will represent an additional 2% work!

Re: Major major info needed urgently!!!

My Dax has an air gap manifold, having to modify the bonnet with an AK scoop (£70) but mine is the old Dax with the small sized scoop.
