Thanks for the response. It looks like mixed Pirelli's are the best choice on a budget. Would have liked the same on all 4 corners
the interweb has pirellis 235/60/vr15 for £100 EACH corner, similar for 215 60vr15 front (pirelli 600 &6000)

Cobraless for the first time since 1992......starting to think of another. Crendon or AK....money dependent
Don't mind a bit of overkill with a higher rating, just don't want to spend too much of my fast diminishing savings!! I had more or less decided I would get the Pirelli's anyway. Only alternative was bigger rims which is out of the question.

I changed the tyres on my Ram about two years ago, after spending alot of time looking I finally decided on the following.
Front Kumho 215/65 R15 96V Solus KH15. these are on 7.5 x 15 rims as specked originally by Ram, I went for 65 ratio as the front ground clearance under the cooler has always been a problem and the front arches looked too big in diameter, these look a lot better.
Rear Kumho 255/60 R15 102V Ecsta STX. on 9.5 x 15 rims also as specked originally by Ram, both are VR rated and I consider them to be alot better than my old BF Goodritch even when they were new.
Cost was around 60-80 each.
Sorry I didn't post about this before but I have only just started reading the Forum
I think the Kumho 255's are too wide for my pilgrims arches unfortunately - a really good option for anyone else though.
Chap at Blockley tyres only seems interested in making tyres that were OEM sizes on the 60's cobras (I think the sizes they used changed a lot?). And it looks like a long wait till production regardless - he might speed up if they gets lots of enquiries though...
Just for info Pilgrim factory kitcarman / Den Tanner was very friendly and helpful as always on the phone today - he reckoned the BFG's were perfectly acceptable in his opinion, with a couple of provisos in line with others comments: They wont pass IVA. They will pass MOT and Mr Plod's inspection. Insurance will be fine, but make sure you've told them, in writing. If you are planning serious track work or trips to the autobahns, or, your own 'private road' to max the car out for hours on end, then you need something else (to be fair if thats the route you are going down then a full roll cage, firesuit and helmet might be worthwhile too)
He also said the sumo (and all other cobras) are so much lighter than the actual weight the tyres were rated to handle there just isn't the pressure on the sidewalls to cause the stress (or the heat) in the tyre. Chaps at North Hants tyres said exactly the same thing (he was selling them though!). North Hants said their BFG stock is no more than 1 year old, 235's are in stock, 215's are expected in early May.
