MOT

Due its MOT next month. Pretty relaxed about it but would be good to hear of a common sense garage. Only grey area seems to be exhaust noise. Since the pipes passed SVA and last 3 MOTs one assumes ite not a problem but it seesm noise is an opinion. Just keen to avoid a martinet type. I'm in Edinburgh.

Cheers

Sound and MOT

Hi
I have just had my MOT (in England) and the MOT’er told me that Q plated cars are now classed as 1971 and did not need rolling road, emissions or any sound.
It may be this is just down here but it may be worth asking.
Good luck with your MOT and happy driving

Hi Ceejayjay,
I can recommend a garage in West Lothian. J & S McIndoe's on the south side of the A89 just before the Dechmont roundabout, opposite Uphall golf course. Family run garage.

Thanks Clive. I'll call them. I take it they've done yours

On Q plate mines on a 77 plate but had it not been I guess it would have been a q plate

Cheers

Yes noise is the testers opinion. Basically the rule book states that a mondeo should sound like a mondeo, a mini like a mini etc.
I get on well with the local garage and my cob is noisy...while there for MOT another customer asked if it would pass as it was so noisy....."go find me another cobra to compare it to" was the testers answer

Had the cobra MOT'd last Monday and it is LOUD. Never had a problem with noise. When I first asked about the loudness of the exhaust he replied. "Well, it's suppose to sound like that is'nt it.

Good call on McIndoe's garage. Nice people, sensible approach, and very honest. Suggested break pad may need changing whilst they had it. If they'd done so, I'd have been quite relaxed, but they called to say they were fine. Cheers.

Hi Ceejayjay,
Never had my Cob MOT'd there but I've known the McIndoe family all my life. I was born and brought up in Uphall and my family had a business there for three generations. I have had a few "normal" cars MOT'd there and as you say very honest and trustworthy.
