sorry to hear of your woes Martin. If you decide to go with a roller cam check what springs the cam provider recommends as some roller cams need different spring rates to flat tappet ones!
I had 5 point harnesses with the latch fitting. IVA inspector had a quick look at them and they passed ok. Very comfortable in my opinion.

You could always spray the cowl the same colour as the car? I tried the leather conferring but the two halves of the spelling never really liked right afterwards so I cleaned it all up and sprayed it...

Just a thought but to ensure a good adhesion I always thoroughly clean both surfaces with acetone before applying adhesive, especially the rubber/carpet side!
I drove my cobra all year round and found that, for me anyway, trying to wrestle a wooden steering wheel in the winter with gloves on was a no no, too slippy! So I'd recommend leather trimmed. Still...
