I do like the thinking but probably best to find something other than modifying a smoke alarm. They use a small radioactive source inside the smoke sensor.

I went through similar quandaries a few years ago when changing my rear shocks which were too long (by 2") and too soft. I am no expert but my thinking went along the following lines:
- As far as I...
I did read something somewhere on this forum that the modified DAX rack was a Dolomite but with tie rods replaced with those from XJ6. I can't verify this but it may be a start point for a bit of...

Here are a couple of pictures of the Cobra at an East Midlands meet back in March 2015. The owner back then went by "Marsh" on this forum.

Hi
You also seem to be having problems with your Smiths oil pressure gauge, http://www.cobraclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=62781.
Could the two problems be related, be it a poor 12volts or voltage...
I have solid bushes holding my rack in place. Not sure where they came from but they've been on the Cobra about 30 years. I did replace the U-bolts and Nylocks some years ago.

The MGB V8 used the same pump as the Rover P6 and so won't fit the SD1 cover.

I had a cut down 'non-viscous fan' type water pump running happily for many (~20) years. The seals and bearings went eventually and I replaced it with a 'viscous-fan' type pump which is a lot...
Hey Roger, I was barely a "twinkle..." in 1972. :D
I did an internet search on the festival. Found quite a few photos and videos.
Cheers,

Getting back on track...
Fred, I know you haven't found a chassis number, but can you give a bit more information to describe the chassis to us? Does it have a Dolomite steering rack? Is it behind...
It's nice when it's an easy fix and for less than the cost of a couple of pints. :D

I had to replace my hydraulic stop/brake sender a couple of years ago. I recall that there was a 5 or 6 digit number on the body of the sender. Although I can't see it in your photos, it may be on...
Hasn't this thread gone off topic? I thought the original poster was asking for technical information about the design/construction of his generation of DAX Cobra?
Russ.
Hi Fred,
Have you found a chassis number?
Early DAXs had it stamped on the top of the chassis cross-member in front of the engine crank pulley. Might be something like "BOP n nn".

Good work Martin and glad you're nearing getting your Cobra running sweet again. Great idea too for updating the forum thread. :)
Double success Charlie. Sounds like you've got to the bottom of...
Another vote for Blackford Bloor. I've probably used them for around 10 years and there has been little movement in the annual renewal premium.

The Cobra kit was completed in 1985. That was before SVA (and IVA) and before DVLA implemented procedures to improve the registration of kit cars. DVLA would have registered to the rules at the time...
Have a look at Martrim.co.uk, They will send samples out too

How about a hybrid electric / petrol combination? Front wheel petrol powered and the rear electric (or visa-versa). It might actually be easier to build. I think one of the custom car tv progs did...

The Morris Oxford is still on the road so he can't have done a bad job putting it together.
The Rolls and the Healey aren't.

Snap - you beat me to it. :)

Alan,
Sounds very cheap. :o
The Pistonheads link you posted seems to require a login. I guess this is your AK..https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/ac/427/ac-cobra-ak427/10535393

I fitted a Lucas 'pull-out' style switch through my dash. It originally came off a P6 Rover but were fitted to many cars back in the day.
I found a similar kit...
Have a search through the forum threads. There are a number of people who have made up a bracket to the chassis to which a towing eye can be screwed into when needed. Either through the radiator...
