I wish I knew how to embed a you tube video into this forum software.

I am really pleased to have overcome this one. Some time needed filling and sanding should make it a decent job

Now, THAT is car building. Not just assembling a kit (which, in itself is fine), but taking a somewhat unrefined 1980's kit and applying the necessary engineering skills to make it right. Your rough, scarred, lumpy body shell will, eventually, proudly display all the hard work that you have put into it to get it right, once the final finish is applied. It will shine through with pristine magnificence. You, sir... probably stink of resin - BUT - GREAT JOB. As you were........

    Hi Gary

Nice work with the door, looks great!

Had a bit of a reminisce there and hoked through some of my old paperwork.
I've attached some pics of the manual I had with the detailed diagrams and instructions for the windscreen. Are my crap photocopies crappier than yours? or did yours come with a miracle original print?
Not that it makes any difference. Bad instructions don't depend on the pictures.

I had to put in page 19..the bold section made me apoplectic!! although it wasn't one of the sections with Bo**ox scrawled across them!?
Did you get any of the other manuals? the Factory Five one was good..."insert pipe A into slot A and tighten securely" etc. A bit more Ikea than Vipers!

I think I have overcome the flimsy door hinge problem.

I felt like is was not the metal strength that was the problem, it seemed like there was some flex/play in the hinge bar bosses.

Here is a photo of the hinge bars. The boss is only 2mm wall thickness.

I decided to cut the bosses off and replace them with something more substantial. So the new bosses have a wall thickness of 5mm. So the bearing area is 2.5 times greater than the original boss.

Initial testing of the new arrangement is really positive, so hopefully this is the cure

A long time ago I got my hands on a set of roll hoops from an Audi TT.

They were a brushed finish, so I set about polishing them.

First was various grades of sandpaper

    Followed by polishing

Holes cut out for drivers side and hoop dropped in, definitely too low

    This height looks better

    Cover trims polished

I am going to fit two hoops, for a total cost of just under £50

I made up some tubes to set the roll hoop height. These slide inside the roll hoop and have now been bonded to the hoop with sikaflex. There is also a cut down bolt through the hoop and spacer to hold it in position.

Once they have gone off, I will smother the spacer tube and bottom couple of inches of the hoops with sikaflex and then slide them into their mounting tubes on the chassis. Once they have gone off they should be well and truly fixed

Almost 12 months ago now I bought an AK dash hoping I could make it fit. Today was the day to find out.

I cut out for the steering column and got it centrally fitted on the tunnel. Unfortunately in this position the top of the dash was not central to the body.

After some chopping around, trial and error fitting I got the top of the dash nicely central on the body, but now its not central on the tunnel. More thinking required!
