Hi to you all, August’s meet, atThe Griffin Inn, Yoxfordwas a fine opportunity to have a blast up the highways and byeways from Colchester in the Black Beast. Eileen elected to stay home and pull up weeds, so Steve went along with friend Phil (whose wife also assisted in the weed pulling). The drive there and back was an excellent opportunity to blow away a few cobwebs and get the wind in our hair. Steve & Phil were joined by Andy and Joy in their Corvette and Guy and Sue and Mike and friend in a brace of cobras. Also along was Andy Edmunds to update us on his long term cobra build. One step forward and two steps back. We all lined the cars up for the obligatory ‘photo in front of a country pub’ before retiring to the public bar for a foaming beverage and a catch up. The Griffin Inn proudly boasts of their ‘award winning pies’ so, naturally, most of us opted to shun the standard Sunday roast option and get stuck in to one of their pies. Steak and Ale, Chicken and Ham, etc, plenty of choices, all served with mash, mushy peas and gravy – food of champions. Thanks for the recommendation Guy. As a good number of those present work within farming, discussions naturally moved to harvest yields, soil quality, the weather. The rest of us nodded in agreement at opportune moments. Of course, having driven there, eaten a pie and had a chat, we all eventually decided it was ‘time to go’, at which point Mike revealed he was rather low on petrol – where’s the nearest petrol station? This coming weekend is the Goodwood Revival. We will be there on Saturday, all dressed up in our finery; and Steve is with Andy & Joy Soar on the AS Motorsports stand on Sunday. We may see you there? We’ll give a report of the activities next month. Which brings us to this month’s meet on Sunday 16th September @ 12:00, and we’re off to West Norfolk. Having a look in the little book, how about - The Crown Hotel, Crown Road, Mundford
Thetford, IP26 5HQ and (01842) 878233. Don’t forget to phone and book if you intend to eat. We’ll continue to populate the ‘3rd Sunday’ calendar with interesting pubs to visit in our usual ‘On Tour’ format. If you have a recommendation or favourite venue, please let us know.
