    Exciter wire for alternator

    Hi Guys
    just fitted a dashboard lamp for the alternator but the light will not go out.
    What I have done is as follows

    Wire from alternator to middle spade connector on lamp

    earth or ground wire to ignition on acc side

    any ideas

    If this a "normal set up" then the other connector on the lamp should go to +12V from the ignition switch.

    Feed the bulb with +12v from the battery, other bulb terminal goes to the alternator. If the alternator isn’t turning it will act as the ground wire and the bulb will illuminate. If the alternator is turning and putting out 12v.....then there is no “ground” available and the bulb will extinguish.
