    Electric hand brake

Hi , has any one fitted an electric handbrake ? Was thinking of using a vauxhall electric motor pulling the cable with a power switch on the dash. Have i over simplified the upgrade ? Thanks

That's the trouble with you Sailors, long hair, quick zips and, Oohh, look at the size of that!!

If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong.

Hi, I fitted an electronic calliper solution from Hi-Spec. It's quite neat as it's a single solution acting on the disk i.e. no need for spot callipers, separate handbrake mechanisms, cables etc.

I had to have the original Jag disks replaced with larger, bespoke disks, so it was quite an expensive solution. But, hopefully simpler to maintain.

I tried attaching some pics, but not having much luck

    Hi

Managed to attach the images (the original file size was too large).

Hopefully, this gives a better idea of the overall solution.

I've fitted one to a GD. Used a linear actuator to pull the cables, bought the actuator from a robotics shop. You can't just connect it up to a switch as you need to switch it off at a preset torque otherwise the actuator motor will stall and burn out. Also for IVA you have to be able to apply the handbrake with ignition off but not be able to disengage the handbrake. It works really well though.

What was your solution to that problem?

No, I'm not "repairing" it, I'm fine tuning its performance.

I use an Arduino to measure the current going to the motor and to stop the motor at a certain value. If you are into tinkering a bit with electronics then this is a good solution at reasonable cost. I'll try post a couple of photos of the installation later.
