I'm still using the same Plasma TV I bought a decade ago

OK, I was using the LCD I bought about six years ago .. but for the last four it's had a big red line down the screen and we finally got fed up enough to move the (chuffing heavy) plasma down from my office

Interesting to note that plasmas were meant to have fairly short shelf life yet we have one heading towards twenty years of age.....undoubtedly feckin' heavy though

Yeah - no problems with brightness on mine, it still seems as vibrant as when I bought it; of course, you don't tend to notice slow degradation until you put it side by side with a new one.. it's heavy enough to give two people a hernia, eats enough electricity to work as a very effective space heater, and washes out dark scenes really badly (limited colour depth, I suspect), though!

One day .. one day I'll replace it. Maybe.

with regards to Plasmas - yep we bought our first around 2006 - i drove down to Reading from Leeds to collect it - 2nd hand Pioneer 43" - Panel only version (no speakers or tuner) - had been ISF calibrated and was 6mths old - cost us £2500 inc a Scart to RGB component converter. Replaced a 32inch Panasonic flat-screen CRT.

I wall mounted the plasma, so much space freed up in living room - connected up to a 5.1 Yamaha AV amp and Monitor Audio surround speakers.

Only got rid of it couple years ago no - still working fine, no screen burn or anything - sold for £50 - brilliant bit of kit.

Still have a 60" plasma now in games room - it does have random pixel columns failing and coming back though - current showing one column of single pixel wide with the issue - lo but doesn't affect viewing

A decade on and LCD have only caught up with plasma black levels. Now OLED or QLED is the furture for black levels. The skin tone in my option was never right on a LCD. You look at reviews and the standard bench mark was the Pioneer or NEC plasma.

I am not going to join the green party turning up in my cobra but have solar panels haha
