Question Ford Sierra headlight low high beam switch?

Hi all just a quick question the left hand column switch from the 1987 Sierra the round hazard warning light button type, with the ignition on should you be able to flash the headlights or do you need the headlights to be switched on? IVA looming?

Surely they should flash independently of the headlights??

Quick test, does your daily driver do it?

A Sierra is my daily driver..... the main beam flash is only with the ignition on, and doesn't matter if the headlights are on or off.

If these stalks are anything like the mk1 stalks then there is a switched live wire into one end of the flash circuit when when the stalk is pulled back provides the 12v to a relay to drive the main beam.
