Gearbox storage
Hi All
Just picked up a rebuilt LT77 gearbox to have as a spare due to these gearboxes becoming very rare to find in good condition and now it is very rare to get one rebuilt due to the lack of parts.
I am not going to put it in yet but just keep it in the garage. However, it currently does not have any oil in it, would you recommend filling it with oil?
Thanks for your help.

I'd have said yes - fill it with oil, spin it over by hand and run it through the gears to try and give everything a good coating of oil.. that should keep the moisture induced rust at bay. Assuming you're going to store it in a garage and not a climate controlled storage facility, of course! (Which reminds me to oil the lathes again for the same reason, especially coming up to winter)

Hi
Many thanks, I was thinking about potential rust issues. I will get some oil and fill it.
Regards
Rob
