    Radiator Options

    Hi,

I have noticed on a couple of occasions that there has been some nice looking alloy radiators suggested for various applications on this forum but as I think they were hidden within other threads it may be difficult to search out.

So I thought a general collective of offerings as a thread may be a good idea. Possibly a useful sticky?

Anyway, my current one off Cobra build is at the stage of planning a radiator. I have a fairly open space but it is a bit too narrow for the ASM type we use.
As I mentioned, there have been a couple of nice options including fans, shrouds etc. I didn't really see the point in setting up a design for a one off if something else would work well.

So if you could list your suggestions preferably with dimensions that would be great.

    Thanks,

    Andy

    The Nissan 200SX radiator comes up a lot - I think that's the S14/S15 item rather than S13: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/45mm-CORE...T/351976100774
Size is 670x505mm according to that listing - I think that includes mounting lugs, though.
Readily available with shrouds, too: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3-Row-Rad...T/233281252080

Looks like the S13 rad (for SR20DET engines) is damn near identical: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3ROWS-52M...T/254268807201

But avoid the S13 CA18DET radiator as the inlet & outlet are on the same side (the right) rather than opposing - unless that helps in your application, of course.

[edit] If I remember, I'll measure the 'hole' it goes into on the Dax later.. I'm half tempted to change the Dax radiator to the shrouded 3-row above..

as above, S14 - 200sx Nissan is the one used by quite a few on here.

I'd originally bought one to replace my SD1 rad but found there was going to be to much work needed to make it fit the SR - mods and welding to rad cradle needed or new cradle design needed. As i can't weld, i didn't fit it in the end, but the weight different (even with the twin fans and ally shroud fitted was significant

    picture of rad i purchased

A man of your many talents Andy you shouldn't have an issue sorting the fitment out - especially if you weld ally - may be needed to remove the rad filler on the top part of the radiator - it hit the body shell or was very close of the SR cobra.

    Hi,

Some good info there. The ebay link has yielded some interesting stuff.
So out with the tape measure tomorrow.
These are approaching half of the cost of our custom jobs for the ASM but of course we are hardly a volume customer.

My 289 build is accommodating Audi v8 with custom chassis. I currently have plenty of scope for radiator shape. It is actually the pipe routing which tricky because the engine is so wide and the pipes emerge from the back and side of the engine.

    Anyway, thanks for the links.

The 200SX radiator definitely fits in a Dax. I fitted one in my De-Dion. It's a bit of a tight squeeze but it means i get as much radiator surface area as possible exposed to the cool air.

    Yep, one of them!

67 cm left to right (as you look at it).
47 cm top to bottom (NOT including filler cap).
+3 cm for filler cap (50 cm top to bottom total).
6.5 cm deep (5 cm core).

Pictures (hopefully) my own bracketry, bolts need trimming and the whole thing needs a coat of paint. Watch for the top outlet had to make a cutout for this (see pictures).
