    Pinion oil seal

    Hi chaps,
changing the pinion oil seal on my Mk3.
it is a 3.31 Limited slip diff,
as far as I know (as I didn't build it) the axle maybe from a series 2.
I have removed the old seal and the one I had ordered does not fit, it's too big on the shaft.
I have measured the shaft at 39.45mm or 1 9/16" but I cannot seem to find a suitable seal.
I do have another one coming from SNG Barratt but if it is also wrong does anyone know the right one from a supplier I can use?

That's the trouble with you Sailors, long hair, quick zips and, Oohh, look at the size of that!!

If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong.

    Couple of issues here.

AAU3381 is for a Landrover salisbury based beam axle - not sure if they use the same pinion seal as Jag IRS salisbury (but probably do). The equivalent Jag part number is CBC6923.

However, that is also for the 'large' diameter input pinion. Looks like you have the early series 1 (and prior) small pinion input - the seal you require is jag part number '3840' I suspect.

SNG and David Manners have them on the shelf.

Sorry, no idea of the OD never measured it.

That's good news for future reference. There seems to be a few different seals depending on the shaft size.
