    Erratic Rev counter

    I have a Rover V8 engine with a DLB198 coil and a 35DLM8 distributor.

The problem I have is an erratic rev counter, seems ok on tick but when you rev the engine to say 2,000 rpm the rev counter flicks up to 5,000 and back again.

I've checked the switch on the back of the (programmable) rev and they are set correctly.

Anyone else had the same issue?
    Regards

No, I'm not "repairing" it, I'm fine tuning its performance.

I found out this weekend that the problem is only evident after the battery light has gone out, until then (while powered by the battery I guess) it's fine.

It has been suggested that I can connect the rev counter to the W terminal on the alternator????? Anyone else using the alternator to pulse the rev counter???? I assume I will need to adjust the programming pins on the rev counter?

So, I moved the feed from the coil to the W terminal, changed the input wire behind the dash, reprogrammed the rev counter and it's all working fine.

Nice work, I guess the alternator output is always going to be a cleaner signal than the one attached to the coil.
