    exterior mirrors

Sorry if this subject has been done to death- i'm a newbie... Looking for some side mirrors for my Dax build. I've gleaned from here that wing mounted mirrors may fail IVA field of view due to the rear wings. So I'm looking for some convex exterior mirrors to mount on the screen sides. My question is that it seems that exterior mirrors are not subject to the tests for "exterior projections, section 16 IVA manual"? I read in IVA manual section 16 "exterior projections"that "The assessment will not apply to exterior mirrors". Is it as simple as this so I don't have to worry about non-radiused mirror parts? and what if I make some flat plate brackets to shift mirrors a bit forward to clear my wind wings (that I'll fit after IVA ) Or am I reading this incorrectly?
Thanks in advance, sorry to raise subject!!

    Hi,

No worries about asking the same question. I have too . I'm in a similar position to you and I will be getting mine from S&J Motors but they are not cheap (around £150 ish for a pair). These are modified to fit the side pillars of the screen and will also allow the use of side screens as well.

S&J Motors do not have a website but are great blokes who are always happy to help. Their email is sandjmotors427@yahoo.com and phone is 01257 262881 (I hope!) but someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers,

    Thanks Stu,
don't mind paying £150- drop in proverbial at this stage of build... This may be another stupid question but I'm in Woking Surrey & S&J's dialling code gives me t'other side of Manchester. any ideas how I can discover what your mirror choice looks like? (Not disputing your choice!!)
    Thanks
    Tony

Hi Steve, thanks for the photo. I had asked S&J for a picture but it had not arrived yet so perfect timing.

I have the S&J screen mounted and they are brilliant. If you are putting wet weather gear on then to make life easier, fit the LH Bracket on the RH side and then vice versa. You then swap the mirrors over. This gives you a bit more clearance for the wind wings when opening the door with the sidescreens on.

I had to dig deep for this £23 mirror.
Bought only the one because two would be extravagant.
Fingers crossed IVA chap likes the E mark.

Now to find out how low I can fit it.

    ....ONE exterior for me jon1d

    This might help you

IVA manual Annex1 - Field of view p3/4/5 of 8
Criteria you need to meet for your mirrors.
From the drivers seat, the examiner needs to be able to see flags A,B and C
    set out in different positions.

    Salient point
NOTE 3: If an interior mirror does not provide the required field of view, a nearside exterior mirror
meeting the appropriate field of view requirement must be fitted.

.......so why should I spend extra for a pair when one Exterior mirror should pass
(I do have an interior mirror)
