    Rover V8 Gearbox advice - R380

    Hi,

I was hoping to drop the engine into my pilgrim chassis whilst I have some time on my hands during this pandemic, but it looks like when I was hunting down a gearbox a couple of years ago I made an error; I purchased an R380 out of an LDV van hoping it would fit but now it has finally come to mating the engine and gearbox, I have discovered that the input shaft is fractionally (circa 15-20mm) too long. I looked at adding a spacer but this would also move the input splines the majority of the way out of the clutch plate, is there another option other than flogging this and spending a load more money on an alternative?

    Thanks for any assistance.
    Thanks,

Can you not have the input shaft shortened?

I thought the LDV gearbox had inappropriate gear ratios?

It has a shorter first gear but I wasn’t worried about that. Shortening the shaft maybe the cheapest option. The cost of these gearboxes seems to have Sky-rocketed since I was last looking!

A guy on Facebooks Pilgrim sumo group has just mated a Mazda gearbox to an RV8, he might have his old box available?

I've asked him if the LT77 box is available, just incase it's of use to you? Will let you know if he replies.

Thats interesting. The MX5 box is good, nice and smooth with half decent ratios.

Be good if you could find out some more info please?
