    Dax steering column shroud

    Hi.

I want to get rid of/modify the ugly and over sized Ford Sierra steering column shroud and replace/modify it for a more period looking smaller one. My intent is to get rid of the stalks except the indicator stalk and fit switches on the dash including the ignition switch and the hazard light switch.
Has anyone else done this on their Dax and how did you do it?

I’m looking at creating a mould and making one from fibreglass but don’t want to complicate things too much, so I’m wondering if there is a simpler solution.

    Cheers in advance.

    David.

If you have Corsa B PAS the VW original type unit is a perfect fit over the outer column.
If you don't already have PAS fit that too while your at it.

Now it's finished and looks like this:

Perfect == may need a little dressing with a file, depending on how well your Chinese/Mexican aftermarket VW column switches were made.. One of mine slid straight on, the other needed a bit of filing; of course, the one that slid straight on was the one that didn't work

ISTR someone saying that original units are actually better made than the modern repops? At any rate, there wasn't a difference between the £40 one or the £90 one

But Kev is right - they are the right diameter (within 40thou) and all you have to do is chop off most of the brown plastic part of the stalk assembly and then slide the VW one on.
