    Column bearings

Anyone ever had to replace the bearings in their steering column?
    Regards

No, I'm not "repairing" it, I'm fine tuning its performance.

    Interesting

I tightened up the steering wheel central bolt the other day to secure the steering wheel, pre send off to the trimmers and noticed a slight give/wobble in the steering wheel/shaft. There was enough to make me think, was there something i had missed. Now, i know there is a spacer behind the steering wheel boss and wondered if i had installed it correctly.

Hmm i will look at the bearing when i get it back, hopefully not a fail at IVA.

    AK specific.

I changed the bearing in a VW column once - it was round but had a bit of play. Hope this helps you.

Hi Craig, I stripped mine when I converted it to top mgb and bottom bmw, if I remember it just knocks out the bottom of the steel tube.

My issue is, when you spin the column is sounds like the bearings are shot, I've greased them and it's better but not perfect. I also think this is affecting my self centering, which again is working but not good enough for my standards.

I think I've found the bottom bearing too now (correct by part number, but not by ad).

To change then I think I need to remove the circlips top and bottom of the spindle, removed the UV and slide the shaft out toward the driver.

I assume the bearings will knock, pull out and be replaced fairly easily.
