Interesting article in the news this morning about EV car production being 63% more carbon heavy than conventional cars (excluding infrastructure). The article says every EV needs to do 50,000 miles BEFORE there is any carbon gain over a conventional modern car!
I had read similar things previously.
I guess this will change over time but interesting in the context of the rush to 2030. If correct, when you add the infrastructure needed, we are in for a huge carbon spike!!
Then look at the environmental impact of the batteries at material source and disposal, not to mention the slave labour, and you really do start to wonder what the heck we are doing. I still believe hydrogen is a better option.

Combine that with the push towards leasing and its being less and less practical for older cars to be kept on the road, and I doubt many cars will ever get to 80,000+ miles in the future

Lloyd: You may be right, cars just 'upgraded' like software and then put back on the road? Like software, you'll never own it, you just lease it? I suppose if that really was the case, then new car production will reach a peak (as city dweller interest in car possession dwindles),
and the factories will be given over to a continuous cycle of 'upgrades' rater like avionics and weapons systems on battleships and fighter jets. Even out-of-fashion bodies can be ripped off and installed on old chasses perhaps.... sound familiar? Perhaps that would reduce some of the production carbon. Still no good answer on the old battery tech disposal.
