Re the never owning it part of that; BMW are already looking at a "Car as a Service" model - or, specifically "Option as a Service", like heated seats that only work for as long as you pay the subscription (no, I'm not kidding), and Tesla were in the news a while back for disabling an optional extra when the car was sold on to a new owner on the secondhand market. Their argument was that the original owner paid for the extras, not the new owner (again, not kidding)

The ultimate extension of the "Just add fuel" deals that have been around for a few years now, I suppose.

I guess the next thing will be cloud based cars hosted in Amazon AWS.... ok, I am kidding about that one.

Sounds crazy, doesn't it! But I guess for a lot of people - probably the majority - cars are "white goods" like a washing machine or dishwasher, and they'll accept it..

I'm on my second lease car after decades of owning them and found I've no emotional attachment to it whatsoever, which is quite liberating when it comes to replacing it. In fact both cars I've leased have been signed up to without even driving them; they just seemed like a good deal.

The one in the garage, however, is a different matter and I've spent much of the 2020 lockdowns rebuilding the V8 that I hope to install in it and I'm heavily invested in the thing.

Confirmation bias perhaps, but seems to support a lot of my suspicions around this argument.

All of these so called clever "Eco Friendly " electric jobs are all well and good
but still it will always come down to basic physics.
There is always a pay back somewhere and it is usually in someone else's back yard !
If people look into this before they purchase these things then so be it.

Something else that bothers me with electric cars is
how quick to 60 mph with fairly average cars !
It would seem hypocritical from us in the Cobra fraternity
or others in this type of category.
The difference is you can normally hear these coming at very
low speeds, mine will drop down to 25 mph in top gear and
just about pull when I touch the loud pedal.
I would like to think that the motor manufacturers make sure
they incorporate some or a good amount of noise to give other
road users ,pedestrians etc a chance of not getting killed by
these machines.
