Do you have a part No for the LED side light bulbs you fitted?
    James,
These are the LEDs fitted inside my head lamp units, which come in different colours, mine being the white version.

Thanks Paul, I will order some of those as well, I should be all LED now which if nothing else should reduce electrical demand.

Reviving an oldish thread but does anyone know if these are legal?

    https://www.holden.co.uk/p/wipac-7-l...ight-rh-pair-1

I see there is an addendum to the MOT rules which came out in March this year. Its says about the light source must be compatible with the light fitting and suggests if its a halogen unit with an LED its a fail.

These units have been specifically designed for the light source....this may be semantics however.

Im just in that phase where I'm starting to collect stuff in advance of ordering the body. Its a big investment it its a no...and perhaps the alternative is the classic car LED's which get swapped out every year as ChrisP suggests.

Also, any thoughts on indicators and taillamps being LED such as the kits for Landrovers that Wipac do?

    Thanks,

    Justin

Ok..so a bit of a search has found this...

"Existing halogen headlamp units on vehicles first used on or after 1 April 1986 must not be converted to be used with high intensity discharge (HID) or light emitting diode (LED) bulbs. If such a conversion has been done, you must fail the headlamp for light source and lamp not compatible.

This does not refer to complete replacement headlamp units which may be constructed with HID or LED light sources.

If a complete headlamp unit has been replaced with a unit that was manufactured with HID or LED light sources, it must not be failed for ‘Light source and lamp not compatible’ but it must meet all other requirements detailed in section 4 of this manual specific to the type fitted at the time of test."

I take this to mean the Wipac units are compliant as they were designed for LED.

Stop! Yeuch.....Dont put those awful looking units on a Cobra - it will look like some bastardised still-born that came from a Dalek mated with a BMW Mini.
I am sure you can spend that £400 on something better!

    Ha!

Yes, theyre not the best looking I'll give you that!!

Im used to LED's on my daily driver and want to use the Cob as much as possible so looking for a solution which gives the best light output and doesnt cause dazzle from putting LED's in standard glass lens.

I've drive mine a fair few times in the dark. OK, not with fog and mist, but dark and some rain.
I think the current Wipac set-up I have is fine. You are not going to want to go as fast on an unlit country road compared to a lit motorway, so not sure what the problem is?

I've got both a mini and landrover 90 which have 7" sealed beam units which are so poor that I wont drive them at night and living out in the wilds of Warwickshire and driving with candles for headlamps is fraught with danger. Just didnt want to replicate that in the cobra.

however, I did have some wipac quadoptics in a Mk 2 Escort I used to have and they were ok with upgraded bulbs.

Its getting the balance between something that looks as original as possible but is usable in all conditions.

    How about these. https://www.wolfperformance.co.uk/lights.html .
They seem to be as original looking as possible. Similar available from Car Builder Solutions https://www.carbuilder.com/uk/7-led-replacement-healamp
    and several others.

If you want to pop down to mine when it’s dark and see the cheap way of doing it (led replacements for h4 bulbs) you are very welcome.
