I used grease and the hydraulic method to get mine out of an LS3.
Didn't notice any core plug??
I drilled mine out as close as I dared then finished it off with a tiny cold chisel- bit brutal but worked (LS1)

Hello again everyone.....
Success - it came out using a £10 Ebay puller but I had to take the puller fingers off by grinding off the pins which hold them in so that the fingers could be inserted into the bearing one at a time. The force required bent the puller cross bar! Big relief though - I thought I was going to have to grind it out.
I also considered using a rawl bolt - that was going to be my next move. Then the grinder if that failed.
Some photos to show the puller etc. attached.
Also a link to a web page that shows the oil plug.

Thanks guys for your helpful suggestions.
