So you buy a car with the registration on show, but when you come to collect, it's o that's not the registration of the car you bought. I wouldn't be happy.

I don’t think the owner/ seller is saying you will get a different reg if you buy it.

it’s had the same reg since 2007, first MOT cert, but if you look it up on the DVLA tax checker it’s a 1951, I reckon it’s taken the identity of an old 1951 AC which was no longer with us.

mot history says it had 3191 miles in 2011, but only 612 in 2021.
colour black when it’s clearly blue
chassis number and engine number aren’t of a format that would have been issued as a new build when the car was registered in 2005. Cloned from the 1951 AC.
DVLA has the engine capacity as 2600 cc

sounds like a can of worms which is a shame as it looks to be a great car

It will never have an IVA test centre for sure.
It will have been imported on a historic document like just about all the Kirkhams and Contemporaries (except mine).

A lovely car and a shame that it's registration is of concern. Clearly not a 1951 AC and shows that the IVA / registration system is still not watertight.

Nothing to stop anyone just registering a car with a clone plate. Plenty of them about and I have seen them sell surprisingly well at auction, even after the auctioneer has made it clear the car is incorrectly registered. The chances of being stopped are slim now everything is by camera as long as the plate is legitimate. And how many young police officers would know they are not following a 1951 AC anyway?
I’m not condoning it, just saying it may not be as big an issue for some. Wouldn’t do for me, I’d be worried it might get seized and crushed!

Incorrectly registered Cobras have been done to death on this forum especially with regard to mot testing. How did this car get pass the mot tester when it clearly isn’t a 1951, black, 2600cc. But it is an AC (of sorts). One out of four’s not bad!
