Will The Oil Pump Still Self Prime

    Hi All,

I hope that you have had a good week !!

Just a quick question please, I have the engine out at the moment refreshing the engine compartment and Gaskets on the engine. I will be shortly draining the Sump turning the engine over to remove the Sump and replace all of the Gaskets etc. I was just wondering, after being drained of oil, then turned upside down and gaskets replaced over a couple of weeks, then turned back upright with all gaskets replaced, Sump and Filter filled with oil and then not put back in the car and started for 3 - 4 weeks, will the oil pump still self prime okay ?

I would imagine it will be okay, but didn't want to be in a position where I have to remove the Sump and repack the pump with grease etc if it didn't prime.

    Best Regards

    Rich

If its a RV8 the oil pump is on the side of the engine - repacking is easy, but messy.
I am guessing its a different block, in which case I cant comment other than my FE stood for 5 years, and I just primed everything by spinning the oil pump using a dizzy priming tool, which was fine.

As above I'd fill it with oil and prime it with a drill and a priming tool down the dissy hole.
