Registering dilemma.. New , chassis age, or donor car?

So, I have my Cobra almost ready for it’s IVA the questions are..

If it has a Ford 351 engine and box is there enough parts to register it as the XJS donor Reg?

Can I register the car as a “New car” if all the parts are new / or reconditioned new? Minus the engine and box ( both rebuilt )

Or do they register it off the Dax chassis age?

To register it correctly.. do I register it as a Dax?

And lastly what’s the most valuable of the above options?

Check the details on the govt website.
You should be fine assuming you used XJ axles, suspension and braking system, to register with a Jag donor on age related plate.
You need to register it as a Dax, NOT a Jag or Cobra or AC.

I am sure Anthony or others will be along shortly with a more detailed response.

Do you happen to have the log book from a donor vehicle ? I luckily did and stated that brakes, suspension, steering etc were from the Donor. There is an extremely useful blog I will try to find the link to which I used where the guy shows how to fill in the forms or if you PM me I can share the copies of my forms so you understand what to do. I did mine 2 years ago and it went without a hitch despite a lot of fretting.

I think you need to read this .
Probably the one Paul is referring to above?
    Very helpful indeed.

As said first thing you need for age related registration is the donor cars V5C.

I see in Ants process he fitted his Cleveland engine into the Jaguar so the donor vehicle then also supplies the engine. I guess this is to get more brownie points and retain the original registration.

He states he should of registered the Jaguar with the engine but did not.

"then fitted Cleveland engine very roughly to the Jag shell for testing. What I didn’t do at the time was to register the Jag with the engine or get the engine's age verified. Both of which should have done. If you want emissions to be visual smoke only you need a PRE 1975 engine and need to be able to prove the age.

    Q. Is it best to fit your engine into the donor. Seems like an extra longer process and time consuming.

No need, the engine is allowed to be different and is not counted in the points system I believe.
Or at least there are enough registration points (for age related) available from the donor without the engine.
You will need to have receipts to state it has been refurbished as new though.
Of course you'll need age verification (pre cat) from an approved source, unless you are running catalysts.

Yes, Ants Cobra was the link I used plus another friendly member who shared their forms and experience which I am happy to do. My engine was not detailed as being part of my donor Jag.

I think the re-registering with a new engine on the donor was a wheeze that doesn't now work, so I didn't bother with this when I went through the process.
I know of cases where they simply didn't believe it (quite reasonably) if the original production car had not been issued with such an engine unless photographic proof was provided.

Any value in installing the donar engine e.g. v12 5.3 and later after IVA do a v8 engine install of your required engine ?

Why would you even consider doing that?
    No value what so ever!
Doing everything twice, the expense of two exhaust systems etc.
Just do it right first time.
The engine is the component in most Cobras that doesn't come from the donor car.
As already said there's enough registration points available from the rest of the donor car.
