Can you put a ls engine into a supertube?

Hello,

I am a new owner of a Dax supertube, and i am wondering if a Ls engine would fit?
I love side pipes and i know i 've to reposition 2 pipes from the chassis,
Are there supertubes with Ls engines or SBC with side pipes?
And do the go through the body, or do they go under the chassis?
I want to know if it can be done?

Hi Rudd,

I’d be very surprised if the LS wouldn’t fit, it’s about the same size as the Rover V8, the gearbox is pretty fat though (Tremec) so that might be the limiting factor.

Congratulations on owning a Dax Supertube - I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.
Mine is fitted with a SBC + side pipes. You can find a couple of pics on my ‘members’ page.
My headers exit under the body and turn upwards slightly before joining into the side exhaust. So no holes required in the lower front wing area. The design was ‘borrowed’ from one of the Dax demonstrators with a 454 BBC from the early/mid 90’s.
I don’t know anything about LS engines myself, so can’t comment specifically on that config.
Answering to Happy Jim’s point, I have a Tremec TR3550, so it fits ok.
I’ve never clearly established the Dax Supertube build numbers, but I believe it was only 32 or 33 in total (always ready to be corrected).

So i will go for a Ls engine with probably a TKX
Niel the Side pipes look very good, glad it can be done.
I've bought the cobra without engine and transmission. ( it was fitted with a Jaguar engine)
And now i am stripping the car and make the car a left hand drive.
Easier in the Netherlands, the clutch will be a challenge, anyone with pictures from clutch and brake pedal, and booster?

I will keep my current Dax cobra SBC 383 with TKO 500 so i can compare and have a example close by

Alright, there's a Dax Supertube near here that my uncle is interested in as his first retirement project. We'll take a closer look soon after we finished installing the brake pads and suspension from 4Wheelonline onto the truck this weekend. Gonna consider your setup here.
