Shell Cobra

This from the 'totalkitcar' website:

"Kitcar Builds have been appointed…………..UK & European agents for the Shell Cobra, one of America’s leading kitcar products. KCB have followed the lead of British American Daytonas who are importing the same company’s Daytona Coupé. Kitcar Build’s boss Brian Jackett tells me that the car’s will be sold in turnkey guise only, with power coming from a Ford Cleveland V8 supplied by Ian Briggs at British American Engines producing around 300bhp. They’ll be sold with a full 12-month warranty with prices starting at £29,995 on-the-road.

Re: Shell Cobra

I spoke at length with Rich of Shell Valley at Donington. His opinion was that the SV Daytona wasn't suited to a Big Block, for weight reasons. The 351 Cleveland, Although a small block, Is to all intents and purposes a BB as regards weight

A tad on the expensive side I'd say. I'm suprised that they haven't done their homework. There are two places offering Daxes (Which are a recognised UK brand) at equal distances either side of that price. Both of them offering 12 warranties.
One being my company DB Replicas and the other being Sovereign Cars own Absolute Performance version.
I wish them luck but I think they should have shopped closer to home.

Re: Shell Cobra

As I expected people (Sorry dealers of cobras) who are slagging it off already, I have done a lot of research regarding this and I approached several leading Cobra manufacturers about supplying my showroom with fully built cars but none were interested or could meet demand. The Shell Valley cobra has been about since 1979 and I believe a very good product, yes the axle is a live axle but I am trying for originality I also wanted a car Ford based not Jag based.

Also Dave you say about shopping closer to home but don't you have a massive wating list, Shell Valley can supply 2 -3 every 6 weeks.

I am sorry it has upset you and you feel the need to slag it off but come and see me at the shows and then slag it off to my face. So far in the Kit Car industry I have met all friendly people, looks like that is going to change.

regards
Brian

Hi Brian and welcome to the forum.

Stating that the car has a live rear axle was not slagging it off, it was an observation...That's all.
BTW. Live axle on a 427 isn't really that original....Especially a Mustang one!

You didn't aproach me regarding fully built cars, and just how fast do you think you will be able to sell them???? (No answer needed)

I know how much mark up you can put on my builds as a dealer (Contact me off forum for volume prices)

I can supply 2 -3 cars every 6 weeks also..............I'm doing that already.

I would think that you haven't struck a deal with UK manufacturers because of the mark up you want to put in there. I know how much it costs to build one of these things and I know that you would struggle to get a UK manufacturer to build you a car for under £30K let alone leave room for you to make a profit on it at that price.

I don't know to what stage the cars are built when they come to you but I am assuming that they are "Turnkey minus".

I have been working hard on reducing my waiting list. Recruiting new skilled staff, more efficient working facility etc. The days of 13 month waiting are gone, at least for the time being. Currently i am able to supply cars at the end of this Summer.

What do you want me to do? Come up to you and say "Your car has a live axle"?
That'd be like you coming up to me and saying "Your car is Blue".

It just suprises me that you know I'm out there with a recognised brand and you know my retail prices, so why bring in something new that's more expensive....Unless you believe that you have a better product.

Calm down, this is just my opinion........But i do have some experience in these matters.

Re: Shell Cobra

I must state hear that Shell Valley is a big player in the budget cobra replica market in the states, but from the same company is the Midstates replica that has the option of a round tube chassis and Jag or Mustang running gear. I think the Midstates car would be a more interesting project for these shores.

Also what about somebody being a UK dealer for Factory Five replica they keep a factory stock of bodies and chassis and you can just walk in and pick your combo up and drive away with it.They manufacture cobras and coupes. But they dont offer a factory turnkey or roller car, but there is countless build agents all over the states that could build cars to order. And there is no shortage of doner mustangs. Food for thought?
