| First MOT recently.I know the tester which helps. When chassis number/reg is put in MOT system it will only show colour, engine size as from DVLA. MOT tester then has to manually fill in the blank boxes.Showed him copy of SVA and copy of engine build date, engine number confirming age etc so no emissions test and alls well.Didn't want to get in car so did brake tests myself etc.No problem with black/silver plates.Maybe because i know him,but he did check safety related items.Few bits to fix but passed. |

| MOT problems Hi , I am an MOT tester and if my memory serves me well all kit cars and amateur built vehicles registered before 1998 are subject only to a visual smoke test. After that date they need to comply to the relevent requirement for the age of the engine and not the body/chassis or registration date. It is always a good idea to take along your V5 document when having your annual MOT test as this can verify some likely queries. I will look up the emissions pages tomorrow to see if my thoughts are correct. HTH. Regards. Jerry. |

You are correct on your assumptions, but the problem is that the V5 doesn't state the age of the engine, the only proof I have is a copy of the SVA Mac certificate, which states CO2 levels not applicable, good job I got a copy.

| The V5C shows emissions; if the box on p2 is blank then the tester knows this means visible smoke test only.

| yep no need for a MAC copy; unless the tester is so dim he cant read; taking the V5 has always been helpful to the tester, and even more so now when checking chassis numbers as they can correct them on the system.

| Was this your first computorised MOt or anew quirk . My sumo has now undergone two computorised Mot tests without any difficulty the certificate shows make Pilgrim model Sumo the second printed only make Pilgrim but both Ok . By the way failed the last one on asplit windscreen wiper and a non flashing indicator tell tale light on the instument panel. Both my fault should have checked first. By the way ever since it went computorised they have stopped checking my emmisions. They did on the first four when they were hand written One time they adjusted it so low the car ticked over like a traction engine. |
