Fastco's new Mean Green...LPG injected Chevy 383 stroker.

Hello... Myself and Joe Heintz...are looking into building a Chevy 383 cid
that will be fueled by Prophane... @ 105 octane..shes good for high comp
and wild cam'n.
The injection system is to be Edelbrocks or Holleys rail port injection syystem ... tricked out and calibrated to suite the LPG / prophane
Joe's the brains behind the injection system.. he seems to have it worked out to a fine art & fully tunable via lap top comp.
And has been commsioned to build rods for many customer fueled by his prophane injected system.
Have'n driven his 780 BHP street rod / 55 Chevy coupe on prohane
and his 1000+ BHP drag rail car...i'm convinced it may be the way of the future for Cobras and Rods alike..both sides the pond.
Not only is the fuel earth ozone friendly..& high octane its dirt cheap @ $1.70 USD gallon..and if you have prophane service @ home you can fill up @ home as Joes been doing for years....laugh'n all the way past the fill stations.
As people pump $3.90 + gallon high test fuel into there rods.

Here a question is prophane ready avaliable @ most service centres in the UK & Europe?... would it be practical to fuel up @ most highway stations in the UK & Europe...or is it far & few between to find prohane.
Any thoughts?
Cheers! Dr,Dee

Hi Dr

I run my 4.6 litre V8 Range rover on gas or LPG (liquid proteleum gas) as it is known in this country.

It is relatively easy to find stations but unfortunately they are far fewer than petrol stations .
I pay 42 pence per litre for LPG whereas unleaded petrol is averaging 91 Pence per litre in our area. And you thought your fuel was expensive!!!!!

The Range rover was converted from a standard petrol vehicle and features 8 point injection into the inlet manifold. The tank fits in the spare wheel well and the petrol system remains unchanged so you have the option of running on petrol if you can't find a filling station anywhere.
It runs just as well on petrol as gas but it is a lot quieter on gas and when you do an oil change the oil still looks as clean as the day you put in there.

If the price of fuel keeps rising in this country I may consider converting My Dax to LPG.

Good luck with project.

Craig.

There is also the bulk option in the UK (your own LPG tank at home and fill the car from the tank).
I don`t know the legalities of this though, whether the taxman wants a few more pennies or not. Is heating/cooking LPG taxed at different rates than for motoring??
I`m sure someone will be along with the answer.

You don`t have to be mental to build a kitcar - but it definitely helps.

I was once told that the home tank required you to use a certain amount of gas per year in order to get permission to get one installed. This may be a complete load though, as how do they know how much you are going to use in the future? I think the tank and pump was costing around £800 pounds a few years ago.

The fuel for heating and cooking is much lower taxed than Autogas and if you were seen using it on the road no doubt you would be heavily fined for it. Kind of like trying to run a car on agricultural, red diesel or central heating oil.

Not sure what the cost of buying bulk gas is but the place that converted my Range Rover say they sell the gas at cost price. This is still 42p per litre.

Craig.

You need to get permission from the fire brigade and they need to have it listed or something.

I had to have the same thing for some calor gas tanks in our old cottage.
