Dave Mac Propshafts

Just thought I would let everyone know about the great service offered by Dave Mac Propshafts.

I sent my Tremec yoke & diagram of requirements off Monday lunchtime, Had a phone call from Mark yesterday to say my Prop was ready, made payment, parcel arrived lunchtime today.

Quality workmanship, speedy service & very reasonable price.

Cheers Tony.

Now Chris you have got me thinking.

Whats the power limit of the normal Jag driveshaft ? I intend once my car is running to try to see by trial and error how much boost an un-opened Lexus on standard internals can take. I have a spare engine with lower miles on the clock than mine so why not?

The current record is 540 rear wheel brake horsepower ( about 650bhp at the flywheel) by a guy in Australia running a 4wd Celica , and he's now fitted a supercharger in addition to twin turbo's to see what he can get out of it further.

If I start down the same road whats the max power a standard solid Jag driveshaft can take and would the act of shortening it limit its power handling abilities still further. I have a Powerlok diff but I'm assuming that wheelspin would be the most limiting factor and the tyres would smoke before the driveshaft breaks.

Thoughts please?

Anyone broke a Jaguar driveshaft ?

Cheers,

Tony

Hi Tony.
The ones in the picture belong to Gwak. He twisted the oringinal Jag ones on a RWB at North Weald last year! His Mopar Sumo is a beast, But it's not 500+ HP. Dave Macs option was a recommendation based on their Jag Racing experience

Was he running sticky or road tyres...........I'm hoping that traction would fail before the driveshafts.

Cheers,

Tony

To add to good suppliers and maybe more of interest for folk in the Yorkshire area Dunnings and Fairbank (Leeds) make and modify drive shafts. I have used them and they were efficient and reasonable.

I have the same heavy duty half shafts as in the pic and they cost £90(pair-me supplying standard yolks) including balancing I have the Avon stickies too, just need more power to test them more

I have driveshafts just like the ones Chris pictured..........the original ones don't tend to break, they twist. Drag racing boys would get a couple of passes out of them at 800BHP+, then they would be too twisted (but not bitter) to use again.

I took the view when speccing my Crendon that I would prefer indestructability in the drivetrain for not much more £££s. And of course it is powered by Ford, so the rest of the drivetrain had to be good..........

Seconded for Dunnings & Fairbank for propshafts.

I dropped off a Jag and Toyota propshaft with a drawing on a Friday afternoon and received the adapted propshaft - balanced and new UJ`s the following Tuesday by TNT. £80 + vat/postage.
