Passed my first IVA.

Hi,

Just managed to get one of my Aston Replicas through the new IVA.
Not too bad really compared to the SVA.
Couple of points to note;

The requirement for the installer of an immobiliser system to be on an approved list has been temporarily suspended as one of the national bodies has gone tits up.

Chassis letter stamps no longer need to be 7mm in size (old news)

Be very careful to check for updates. My tester showed the amount of revisions this week and it was quite a tidy sum I can tell you. Goal posts are constantly shifting, so check to avoid an uneccessary £90 restest fee.

Andy

Congratulations Andy.

Am going to be in your neck of the woods for a while - where exactly in Bressingham are you? Would love to come and put my grubby paws over one of your AM cars.

Hi Dinosour,
I never realised who you were. I was drooling over one of your cars at Goodwood last year. Very very nice.

Vosa Is actually pretty easy apart from the hefty rise in prices.
They do really seem to take a balanced view of any modifications if they are done well.
The immobiliser issue was proving to be a bit of a sticking point as the company that I had install mine were not on any list of approved intallers. This is despite me explaining the need to meet the IVA requirement. I was chasing round in circles trying to come up with some solution whilst at the test centre when Les, the tester, went and checked the latest updates for the main office. He returned with an update the said the requirement was temporarily suspended. A result indeed.
I was then allowed to attend to some minor issues and the certificate was issued.
DVLA seem to be the awkward ones nowadays. They are asking for plans of parts now if you are unable to provide reciepts. I think that I would definately think twice before handing over chassis and suspension plans to an organisation that does it's best to loose your V5 when you send it in.
My inspection is booked for Tuesday morning at Ipswich. Then prpoer shake down testing can take place.
After that is is full steam ahead to build another in time for Goodwood Revival.

Wilf. The farm is basically due north from the church / pub that is on the A1066.
So East bound on A1066. go past chequers pub abd church. Next left. Crossroads Left. Poplar farm on Left. Best to give a call first to see where I am abouts.

Andy

Hi Andrew.
Can't you just provide a reciept from AS Motorsport to Andrew Soar for any of the parts you have had to manufacture.

I have not had to have an immobiliser on the cars I have taken, but they have had the ignition key operated steering lock still working.

Congrats on the pass.

Gary,

Blurry pink digit is due to poerating a new camera phone thingy. Lens it right up the top corner. Hopefully I will remember ing future.
No it wasn't the same car. That one was the one I auctioned at the Aston works auction through Bonhams. I wish I had earnt as much as Bonhams did in commission but it was a good outcome nonetheless.
The car pictured above was away at paint during open weekend. It only arrived back with me a little over two weeks before the IVA test was booked. The same time the engine finally arrived also. Hectic couple of weeks that was but I made the first test just knowing that there were a few issues to resolve before a restest anyway.
I do not have an operational steering lock and the imobiliser seemed to be the only thing that would suit the examiner. It was rather frustrating to hit on the glitch mentioned above on the restest as it was probaly the first thing ticked off the original list of non conformance.
Dave, I did exactly that with the reciept. Left the DVLA and returned within the hour with all the requested info. I think she was a bit surprised. Fingers crossed the the historic vehicle status is retained.

Andy

PS if any one has pre 73 jags with V5's knocking about I could use engine gearbox and V5 for my builds.
