Hard Top for Cobra Replicas

I realise this may be sacrilege but does anyone have a removable hard top for a Cobra replica? If so would you recommend it and where can I get one preferably in the UK.

I got my replica in Manila and had to leave sooner than expected so the manufacurer could only make me a tonneau. Seeing as I do not have any car with a roof I thought it would be good to make the Cobra more passenger friendly for the rain.

RE: Hard Top for Cobra Replicas

Hi Alex, and welcome,

hard tops are available for some Cobra replicas in the UK.
But unfortunately not for all.
I believe GD do one as do Hawk Cars (although I believe Mr Hawkridge doesn't like to sell them to anyone unless it's for a Hawk)

It depends what kit you have. Dax don't do one themselves.

It may be possible to modify one to suit your car if you have the technology and the will.

Kev

Many thanks - this really does help get me heading in the right direction.

Good to see the forum working. No doubt I'll be using it later when I try and get the SVA approval!

RE: Hard Top for Cobra Replicas

Hi Alex,
I know David Brookes is making a hardtop for a DAX (modified from another supplier) - I got some pictures from him.
You can find his email adres on this forum.
Regards,
Andy from Belgium {-}

RE: Hard Top for Cobra Replicas

Hi Alex,

My Dax used to have a hardtop - original produced by Dax themselfs.
After it got damaged, I went back to Dax, but alas they have
disposed of their mold. . .

On the upside, I am going to approach Dax, to see if its ok to make
a mold of my old hat so I can make up a new one.

Pat thanks for that - can't quite understand the logic of destroying the mould but there you go!

I suspect that if you or someone were to produce a mould for a Dax hard top, you would have a nice little earner on your hands.
Is that rear window glass or plastic?

RE: Hard Top for Cobra Replicas

Hi Pat

I have been interested in the Dax hard top for some time.

Dax told me that they had disposed of the mold because it didnt fit very well and that the customers they supplied were not that happy. The reason was that it had been adapted from a 289 mold.

From what I can seen from the pictures it looks ok to me.

If you decide to go ahead with taking a mold from you roof let me know I would be interested in having a roof made. Please let me know if I can be of any help.

regards
Kevin

RE: Hard Top for Cobra Replicas

Hi Kevin,

The hard top on my fitted A1 and there was very few, if no modifications to it.

I have been thinking of making a mould, as I would prefer to have
a hard top again. If so, depending on the interest, I may make
a few (maybe more)???

If anybody is interested, please feel free to e-mail /or post
thoughts and opinions in the forum.

Kind regards,
Patrick.
