I first got involved with Cobra replicas and KCC in particular during an assignment in J'burg a few years back and was impressed. You do not say what suspension your Cob has. If its Jag based the car was certainly built in J'burg - if its BMW based it was probably built in Durban as Rudi, the owner of KCC, moved the factory from Jburg to Durban around two years ago. Some BMW based cars (around 20) however were built prior the move. The Durban factory was also very heavily involved with BackDraft racing in USA and to my knowledge KCC Durban still make the chassis and bodies for them. KCC retained a presence in Jburg when two of the KCC managers did not move to Durban but stayed on as Venom Cars in Jburg. Johann and Eugene kept it all going until unfortunately Johann died unexpectedly of brain cancer The old KCC showroom in Jet Park Jburg has since become the home for Bailey/Edwards cars, they manufacture replica GT40, Ferrari P4 and Porsche 917 - thier web site well worth a visit - ( just search bailey edwards za) The Jburg based cars were very strong body wise as they all had 4 ply bodies - I saw one T-Bone an Audi at lights one time - Audi A4 totalled - Cob required a new front quarter wing and some cosmetics but drove home from the accident. Only problem was cars built, unless otherwise specified, to SA specs which did not require windscreen wipers and washers or a heater so when bringing over here required some mods. I do know that someone who used to work for Virgin airlines had a KCC car made to Uk specs and shipped it - BMW based in blue/white stripe but I think with a mustang 5.7 engine installed so probably not your car. I had a BMW based Cobra whilst there with a 400 Chevy engine. Handling around Kylami and Schwartkops circuits on track days was brilliant - imagine an M3 BMW weighing 400kg lighter with an extra 130hp and we're cooking !! Sold it in Jburg to sponsor my Daytona build which is an on going build around one of KCC BMW chassis from Rudi with a shell valley kit supplied by BA Daytona. | Thanks for the info regarding kcc, very interesting. Mine has jag suspension which works fine, cant wait to get out in her this summer. Would be gret to see the daytona sometime..... |
