West Kent painters?

I'm looking for a painter to 'do' my Dax. As close to Tunbridge Wells as possible. I have discovered Sovereign near Hastings and will get in touch with them plus I've been in touch with 7-indulgence who are going to get back to me.

Any more recommendations?

Thanks.

Andi.

Hi Andi.
If Grahame at 7 Indulgences paint is anything like the rest of his work, You won't be disappointed. I used Sovereign and am very pleased with the result Not the cheapest but very professional, and you do get what you pay for. Gerry Hawkridge recommended them to us and Gerry's recommendations are few and far between

Are you painting before or after the SVA?

OK, before I admit this I have read the discussions either way and thought long and hard about it. But please bear in mind I have a bit of a messy body.

So it's going to be before. I think it's going to be a lot easier in the long run even if it means a bit of touch up afterwards. There seems to be so many things that I would want to take off for paint or have to cover over securely during painting it seems easier to do it early.

Nothing wrong with that. Lots of people do it that way round and Dave brooks builds all his cars that way.

Just make sure there is nothing you are likely to change after the test that will affect the paint like the fuel filler or the washer jets. Not that you should change anything anyway.

I ran my car for a few months before painting but after the SVA and I decided to change the rear deck mounted filler cap for a recess in the wing top and I needed to open up the holes for the sidepipes as I found they touched the body under acceleration. Everything else was left as it was though.

I should have the washer jets in if the windscreen arrives soon and I've decided on the simple route for the fuel fuller, above the tank. I'm using this build as a learning exercise so will keep it basic - I might even go blue with white stripes Once it's done I don't intend to change it. If I have any bright ideas I might just build another one, or maybe a Viper, or a GT40........... Yes still dreaming.

I've been down to see Sovereign Coach Works, very nice indeed. They talked about all the points raised here, baking it first, getting it smooth and taking their time. Price was what others have said for a decent job so it was all very encouraging really. Only trouble is they have an eight week lead time, so bang goes my original Spring deadline along with my revised Summer one I suspect - ah well!

One very good point was that the roads between here and there were pretty good (for Kent A roads anyway) so there'll be little rattling around on the trailer.

Had a call from 7-Indulgence too but I can't get throuigh to them again to hear what they have to quote. I'll try again tomorrow.

In the mean time this is what was standing on their front drive. The black vehicle behind the red box is a quite badly dinged Jaguar with bits of yellow fibreglass hanging out from between wheel and tyre. I thought it a bit unfair to take a photo.

Why not stick it together, Get the SVA done then use it for the summer. Paint it over the winter months when you won't be using it as much.
