Hi,

Do you know if the speedo is mechanical or electrical? I had fun with my VDO until I sorted out the sensors ('Sensors' sounds fancy but they are just small magnets ).

Re: Silver/Grey Portsmouth Road, Camberley

Well, being a female I don't know too much about it but here goes... Its made by ETB instruments, the speedo transmitter cable runs down by the side of the gearbox to a sensor which sits by a daisywheel. All the cables are connected ok, the sensor is only sitting about 2mm at the most away from the wheel. The speedo doesn't register anything. I know its not the battery in the speedo as the mileage display is still visible, it worked for about 20 minutes the other day and was reading the correct speed - but then it just decided to conk out again. We are totally stumped so any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Re: Silver/Grey Portsmouth Road, Camberley

Hi Jenny,

If it worked for a bit then I'd say the speedo itself is fine. It sounds like the sensor is not aimed correctly at the pickups. I'm not too sure exactly on your problem though. Mine uses small magnets as pickups and is attached to the prop shaft.
Try adjusting the sensor, it dosn't take much to have them not reading.
If it worked for a bit then stopped working then the vibrations you get with driving are jolting something. That may be a loose wire or it could be jumping the sensor about.

Paul

PS It may be an idea to post on the CRC technical forum to get more response from other CRC members.
